The Chautauqua movement joined thousands of
Americans for cultural, educational and other creative experiences
before the advent of radio or television.
While the Colorado Chautauqua is only one of three such
associations remaining in the U.S., the experience is still, as
Theodore Roosevelt once put it, “the most American thing
in America.”
The Colorado Chautauqua Association has 26 acres in
Boulder — aptly called Chautauqua Park. Visitors can
experience the sights and sounds of live music at the outdoor
auditorium, which is voted by musicians as one of the
top 10 places to play in the U.S. because of its extraordinary
acoustics and intimate setting.
Silent films also are shown at the auditorium throughout
the summer, while lectures and other programs are scheduled
at the park throughout the year.
A dining hall is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner year
round, serving fine American cuisine.
Cabin lodging is available for one-night rental throughout
the year, while 60 cottages are rented for single
evenings during the summer months. Private events, such
as weddings and business functions also are available.
