Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and
Curecanti National Recreation Area has nearly 75,000 acres
of canyons, cliffs and water sports. The park offers camping,
boat and driving tours, hiking on the rim and in the canyon.
Backcountry routes are steep, not maintained, unmarked
and require permits for entrance. There are a number of
technical climbing routes and bouldering opportunities.
Ranger-led activities offer education about the park.
The South Rim Campground is open all year but there are
no water hookups or dump stations. The East Portal
Campground has 15 sites, none of which can be reserved.
The North Rim Campground has 13 sites and fills on a firstcome
basis. There are no hookups and cost per night is $12.
